Major Scale Construction

Below is the (C) Major scale.

  • 1   2  3   4   5  6  7   8
  • C  D  E   F  G  A  B  C
  •            ^   ^            ^    ^
  • Between notes 3 & 4 and notes 7 & 8
  • there is only 1 fret on the guitar.
  • Between all other notes there are 2 frets.
  • All major scales are constructed this way.
  • From C to D is 2 frets.
  • From D to E is 2 frets.
  • From E to F is 1 fret.
  • From F to G is 2 frets.
  • From G to A is 2 frets.
  • From A to B is 2 Frets.
  • From B to C is 1 fret.

The Cromatic Scale

The guitar neck is set up as a cromatic scale meaning each fret is a half step higher. Below is the cromatic scale.
